When children dance together, something amazing happens - children begin to embrace new ideas and learn to make social connections. Our dedicated teacher helps even the tiniest dancers appreciate their friends dance, applauding, celebrating, and working together. All the while, our children are having a wonderfully enjoyable time time singing and dancing and being silly. Even at a young age, our dancers begin to see the differences in the way they think and feel compared to their friends, all the while learning to accept and celebrate these differences. Our creative dance classes offer children tools for lifelong learning.

Physical activity is a really important part of nursery life here at Daisychain, and so we do lots of things to promote and encourage it. Firstly, we create a supportive and happy environment and then we provide a wide range of opportunities for children's activity and interactivity. We consistently review what we do so we can be sure our activities improve childrens skills of coordination, control, manipulation and movement - as well as being a lot of fun! We support the use of all the senses to learn about the world and to make connections between new information and what is already known. This includes supported the development of an understanding importance of physical activity and healthy choices in food.

This is an exciting opportunity for children to work together building an allotment. We also travel to local allotments, woodlands, and orchards - all with permission and never scrumping! These are safe environments where children can take manageable risks in their learning about life, food origins, and the natural world. Each week the children work together planting seeds, helping them grow, and they start to learn about where fruit and vegetables come from. We want to empower them to make good and healthy decisions in life and maintain a healthy lifestyle and attitude towards food.

Messy Play

Messy play is important for young children just as much as it is a lot of fun, giving them endless ways to develop and learn. All types of play are crucial for children’s development and early learning. We ensure that play gives children the opportunities they need to improve thier physical skills and co-ordination, work co-operatively and collaboratively, use all their senses to discover and explore their environment, as well as develop their imagination, creative thinking and ability to problem solve. Playing with toys alone can limit opportunities to develop imagination, creativity and critical thinking. Messy play is open ended and children discover enormous numbers of opportunities for learning and play, through timeless and accessible messy play activities.

The outdoors is the very best place for preschoolers to practice and master emerging physical skills. It is in the outdoors that children can fully and freely experience motor skills like running, leaping, and jumping. It is also the most appropriate area for the practice of ball-handling skills, like throwing, catching, and striking. And children can perform other such manipulative skills as pushing a swing, pulling a wagon, and lifting and carrying movable objects. We do all of this and more in our specialist Forest School too.

There are some really interesting statistics around outdoor play here at www.loveourdoorplay.net Did you know that 99% of parents (of 5-6 yr olds) think that children are better behaved in lessons if they are allowed to play at break time?

In the same poll, 42% of children have never made a daisychain. This is one thing that we will ensure that all our children can do.

Let's all make daisychains...
